Annotation: 
The Church of St. Stephen did not survive, so there is very little information about its interior. Originally, I was going to draw an iconostasis inside the church. While researching, I learned that the iconostasis developed into its modern form in the later Byzantine period. Because this project is based on the 10th century, I chose to use a templon instead.
The templon design was inspired by the Church of the Holy Apostles in Athens, a church built around the same period (late 10th Century).

 Before working on next page, I try to reconstruct the spatial relationship between building complex, so I drew a rough layout of the halls and how troops/senate proceed to the tribunal. I also designed how patricians, senate, troops and other people stand outside of the hall.  I don't think all imperial guards will attend the ceremony as the tribunal probably couldn't hold that many people.  I currently assume that a few hundred guards drawn from different tagmata were present.

Project: Visual reconstruction of De Ceremoniis (Περὶ βασιλείου τάξεως)

This project explores the visual reconstruction of Byzantine rituals and ceremonial practices based on   De Ceremoniis . By translating textual descriptions into visual representations, it aims to deepen the understanding of Byzantine court culture and provide historical foundations for the world-building of my comic. The first chapter I chose to work is Book I, Chapter 43: The Investiture of a Caesar.  Το παρόν έργο εξετάζει την οπτική ανασύνθεση των βυζαντινών τελετουργιών και των τελετουργικών πρακτικών, βασισμένη στο έργο  De Ceremoniis . Μέσω της μετατροπής των γραπτών περιγραφών σε οπτικές αναπαραστάσεις, το έργο αυτό αποσκοπεί στην καλύτερη κατανόηση της βυζαντινής αυλικής κουλτούρας και στην παροχή ιστορικής βάσης για το world-building του κόμικ μου.
